Pgs 42-82 of "Chinese Cinderella"

Summary
In these next pages of Chinese Cinderella, Adeline and her family encounter Chinese New year, where the kids got new clothes symbolizing a new year.  Though, she, and most of the children from the original mother received old and out of style, while the new children from the step-mother had gotten new clothes and new hair styles as well.  Enraged by this, the original children decide to join forces and write an anonymous letter to their father, about having to start a revolution.  Though this plan fails because the big sister, who is like the leader, defects to their step mother's side and all fails.  Also things sort of go back to normal, meaning that  Adeline is mistreated by her family, but she does start to talk about her friends at school.  She also talks about her stories and times coming home.  During these pages, the second World War has ended by an atomic bomb dropped the U.S military.
Quote
"Why was I crying? Surely, I was inured by now to their malice."
Reaction
In this quote, I thought that her family is really deceiving towards to her because, what just happened was that they had invited her for a nice, cold drink of orange juice.  She hesitated to take the drink, but saw her third brother there, believing that it was alright.  The deception was that her brothers had mixed their urine with the orange juice. At this time, she lost her third brothers trust.  Though, throughout these pages, Adeline mentions some nice friends in class, one who knows English and shares books with the class and is also athletic like Adeline, just more. My reaction to this is that her life outside the house, I think is getting better, but when with her family and in the house, does not like it as usual.
